Ontor Marsal is a story of a young man who fell in love with a girl who was an orphan. She was raised by the headmaster of a school. When the boy asked her to marry him, she asked the boy to go first to the headmaster and talk to him about the marriage. When the boy went to the school to look for him, he came to know that the headmaster had gone to the jungle for prayer. He goes there and meets him in a dramatic way. The headmaster shares with the boy about the creator and how he found him. The boy too finds the creator. Finally the boy and girl are able to get married and live happily together.

God, at different point in history spoke to many different communities about his existense and His love. Creation story among Santals is similar to that of the Bible which communicates that some point of history, God had revealed Himself to Santals.

This movies was done by a professional team from Create International. The Director, Steve Baldwin, came with his well trained team to Dumka for the shooting of this film. His team members Paul, Deepak, Caitlin, Rachana, Mark and Esha gave their undivided attention to complete this film in a very short period of time. We thoroughly enjoyed our time together.

I personally feel honoured to have been a part of the filmmaking team. I am thankful to Rev. John Soren and Pastor Patras Tudu for their contributions. All the artists were taken from the Santal community. Many of them acted for the first time but they all did a great job. Sebastian and his wife played the roles of Joyen and Baha, the main actor and actress of the movie. Arthur Da and his family made a great contribution by opening their home. Mrs. Alice Soren gave her house for the voice recording for the film. I am thankful to all the other artists including my father. Though he is no more with us, this movies will be a great tool to continue to remember him.

The idea of this movie came from Rev. Daniel Kikawa, a researcher of culture from Hawaii. From his deep research of many cultures, he has found that God, at different points in history, spoke to many different communities about his existence and his love. But, over time, Satan has lead them astray from their walk with God and has defiled their culture and used it for his glory. According to Daniel, we can go back to those traditions and redeem them back for the glory of God.

In his study about Santals, he found that Santals have a creation story similar to that of the Bible. Looking long back in history, they were worshipers of one true God. They called Him ‘Thakur Jiu’. But with the passing of time, they slowly drifted away from Him and became the worshipers of different spirits including their ancestors. Sadly, they went so deep into worshiping spirits and ancestors, they completely forgot their creator, ‘Thakur Jiu’. Our desire is to bring the Santals back to their creator who sent his son Jesus to die for their sins.
